Blew out a tire

Well, we spent the entire day one Saturday jacking around at the personal beach and pier we have to our disposal.  I'll try not to go on too much about that in a post that outlines just how beautiful this place is we are staying.  I will say that it was spent swinging in hammocks, taking rides in the kayak and watching the dogs have fun.

Well, the dang teenager, Lucy with her 426 Cubic Inch blown Hemi was really having a blast at the beach.  I think we all know what it means when you play hard.  Well, Amy goes to take the dogs for a walk and notices that Lucy's not using her back left foot, she's walking 3 legged.  Amy brings her back and takes out the other 2 dogs.  I examine the situation and find a "blown out tire."

Ouch!
So, I'm watching this thing for a few days and it's just not getting any better.  Lucy is just livid that she can't go on the morning walks.

I finally reach out to Dr. Charles (Mr. Jeff left me his card just in case).  I send him a picture via facebook and he says she will need stitches.  I called the next day and Dr. Charles says to bring her in.  After wrestling with this dog (I find out she hates riding in cars) we get rolling to the Vet.
Two phonies, Lucy hates the car, I'm not sure if she's going to bail
Selfie time!
We get down to Dr. Charles' place, he was so kind to direct me in via cell phone.  His place is very easy to find.
He takes care of all kinds
So, Lucy gets a shot to knock her out.  We wait, and wait, and wait...she just lays down.  So Lucy gets a second shot and more waiting, then she's knocked out.  Keep in mind, Dr. Charles lets me stay in his OR the entire time.  Lucy gets a local shot on the busted paw (blown out tire).  He puts in 4 stitches and talks me through the entire process.  Lucy get's another shot of antibiotics and something for the effects of the anestetic.  I get 500 mG Amoxicillin pills (2 times a day for a week) and now I'm starting to wonder about how much cash I got.

Dr. Charles takes Lucy out and puts her in the truck before we settle up.  After all this work, the bill was $31 USD.  Dr. Charles studied in Cuba for 5 years to get his licence.  He is very good at what he does.  At the end he asks me 2 questions "did I do anything that you felt I should not have done?"  and "Is there anything I could have done better?".
All official looking here, but he works wearing flip flops.
After a couple days, I was waiting for lunch and I get a call from Dr. Charles as a followup call to see how Lucy is doing.  I wish I got her the cone of shame (howdy Caprice!) but I didn't, her tongue was purple the day of the surgery because she managed to lick all of the postoperative stuff off.

In Proverbs 12, verse 10 it says "A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."  One thing I've noticed here in Belize is that dogs are a throw away item.  It's more of a culture thing here, but it is somewhat of a cruel life.  Lucy was found at the dump 5 miles away from her current home.  Mr. Jeff saw her at the dump but was on his motorcycle.  He made a deal with Lucy that if she followed him home, he would bring her back to health and give her a new life.  Boy has he ever held up his end of the bargain and what a great dog Lucy has become.  The object lesson is that of The Lord Jesus Christ, he brought me out of the dump and gave me a new life, better than I could have ever dreamed of.  Maybe you're in the dumps right now, cry out to Jesus, he want's to guide you home.
